We are an Elder-led congregationally-governed church.  The congregation grants to the Elders the responsibility to shepherd and the authority to lead the church.  The Elders shepherd and provide spiritual oversight and leadership to the church, entrusting the implementation of that leadership to Staff and Ministry Team Leaders under the direction of the Senior Pastor.

Scripture uses the terms “elders”, “pastors”, and “overseers” interchangeably (see Acts 20:17-30; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-3).  Therefore Biblically, elders are pastors and pastors are elders.  At New Life the Pastoral Staff and the Elders function as distinct groups who work together as peers to care for the church body and serve each other as a form of check and balance support.

Collectively, the Elders are ordained to shepherd (1 Peter 5:1-4); pray (Acts 6:4); oversee finances (Acts 11:29-30); encourage, support, and hold the Senior Pastor accountable (1 Corinthians 14:32-33); champion and preserve the doctrine and vision of the church (Acts 20:28); and set policy to guide the Staff and ministry of the church (1 Timothy 5:17).
